Spend approximately eight to nine hours exploring both the subtropical forest of Kinsakubaru and the coast, villages, waterfalls, and cliffs of Yamato Village.
Your guide is Nana Tamaki, a certified Amami Islands ecotour guide who studied biology at university and moved to Amami through her research. In Kinsakubaru, observe subtropical plants while learning how the forest developed and what makes its ecosystem distinctive.
After the forest walk, continue to white-sand beaches, rows of fukugi trees, waterfalls, and coastal cliffs. The day connects the island's mountains, which descend steeply toward the sea, with the narrow areas where communities have made their homes.
Stops are adjusted according to weather, season, and your interests.
体験の特徴
At Kinsakubaru, walk among evergreen broadleaf trees such as sudajii (Castanopsis sieboldii) and iju (Schima wallichii), observing large tree ferns and elephant-ear plants characteristic of subtropical forest. Continue to Yamato Village to see white-sand Kuninao Beach, fukugi trees planted to protect homes from wind and fire, the forest-fed Materiya Falls, or the Tokuhama cliffs above the sea, depending on the day. The focus is on connecting these places: water runs from forest to sea, villages grew between steep mountains and the shore, and island communities continue to live within that landscape. Rather than rushing between landmarks, choose stops that best reveal Amami’s forests, coast and settlements that day.

This tour offers more than subtropical forest and scenic views.
In Yamato Village, settlements occupy narrow strips of land between steep mountains and the sea. Songs, dances and traditions of prayer have developed in these communities. In Kuninao, rows of fukugi trees planted to protect houses from typhoons and fire show how people have adapted to life with nature.
Nana Tamaki moved to Amami through her biological research and has become increasingly interested in the island's deep local culture. She brings wildlife and plants into focus in the forest and daily life and cultural traditions in villages, connecting the landscape to the people living there.
Because guiding in English is available, visitors who do not speak Japanese can ask questions about nature and culture as they travel and learn through conversation.
Places that first appear to be simply beautiful views become landscapes where nature and human history overlap.
Stops are selected according to weather and participants' interests.
