Certified female guide Aasa supports your group at its own pace, from paddling instructions and accompanying you on the water to safety guidance.
Travel at water level among mangroves growing in brackish water, where fresh water and seawater meet, and discover Amami's plants and wildlife up close.
Pick-up and drop-off from northern Amami can also be arranged. Along the way, conversations about the island's scenery and daily life make this experience more than a canoe excursion.
体験の特徴
The mangrove forest of Sumiyo is said to be Japan’s second-largest mangrove wetland after Iriomote Island. “Mangrove” refers not to one tree species but to plants adapted to brackish areas where fresh and salt water mix. Species found here include Kandelia obovata and Bruguiera gymnorhiza. The appearance of the waterways changes with the tides, so start times are adjusted to water levels and conditions. Beginners receive careful paddling guidance, and smaller paddles are available for children. As the tour is completely private, you can paddle without keeping pace with other groups.

奄美大島出身。18歳でバスガイドになる夢を追って上京し、約4年半バスガイドとして各地を案内。
その経験を通して故郷・奄美の価値をあらためて意識するようになり、帰郷後はアマニコガイドサービスで約4年間ガイド経験を積みました。
現在は「奄美のあーさ」代表として、奄美群島認定エコツアーガイド、第二種運転免許を持つドライバー、キャンドルアーティストとして活動。
ウォーターパドルレスキュー資格・上級救命講習の修了など、安全面にも配慮しながら、子育て経験を生かした家族旅行や女性一人旅への細やかなサポートを大切にしています。
「見せる」だけで終わらず、その場所がなぜ大切なのかまで伝えること。

4. Set out with your guide, paddling slowly through the mangrove waterways with support alongside you.
5. Observe the mangroves and nearby habitats according to tide, weather and conditions.
6. Return, change clothes if needed and conclude the activity.
7. Guests who booked transportation are taken back to their accommodation.
Note: Start time, route and duration may vary with tide and weather.

A change of clothes, including underwear, a towel and drinks. Bring sunscreen, insect repellent or motion-sickness medicine if needed. Please bring rainwear for children.
Wear comfortable clothes that can get wet. Quick-drying clothing that covers your skin, such as a long-sleeved shirt or rash guard, with trousers or leggings that can get wet, is recommended. For footwear, beach sandals or other smooth-surfaced sandals are recommended. Water shoes are not recommended because mud can easily get trapped inside.
Tour start times depend on tidal conditions in the mangrove forest and are not fixed. You may get wet while boarding, leaving or paddling the canoe. Tours usually proceed in rain, but strong winds or other safety concerns may require an on-site decision or cancellation. Motion-sickness medicine is recommended if needed. Follow your guide’s instructions for your safety.
